In 1936, while only five weak A.M. radio stations were broadcasting in the Detroit area, CENTER LINE SHEET METAL opened its doors. Fred Necker began doing business in roofing and sheet metal work.

In 1944, as the suburbs moved north, Fred partnered with his brother-in-law Joe Gillette and started installing gravity furnaces. The company was renamed CENTER LINE HEATING & SHEET METAL. Roofing was not out of the picture for Fred and Joe. They spent all their time installing and servicing gravity furnaces and building custom ductwork for the growing residential area.

In the mid fifties as the suburbs exploded and air conditioning became popular, Fred and Joe were well established and well regarded in the community and CENTER LINE HEATING & SHEET METAL became CENTER LINE HEATING & COOLING, INC.

With the death of his father (Joe) and the retirement of his uncle (Fred), Jerry Gillette took what he knew from growing up in the business and bought CENTER LINE HEATING & COOLING, INC. from his uncle in 1978.

In 1989 Jerry joined forces with his brother Joe Jr. to continue the family owned business. Around the same time, Jerry’s son, Jeremy, began working for the company as an installer.

In 2015 Jerry retired after many years of running the company with his brother Joe. Jerry’s son, Jeremy became the new owner in his dad’s place and ran the company with his uncle. In 2020, Joe followed his brother’s footsteps and retired to the sunshine state of Florida. Jeremy became the sole owner of CENTER LINE HEATING & COOLING, INC.

To date, CENTER LINE HEATING & COOLING is still a family run operation and is still in the same location – a mainstay in the community.

With Jeremy and about 20 employees (including his daughter & son), CENTER LINE HEATING & COOLING is doing well! Keeping the company small means Jeremy can maintain a personal eye on the high quality of work that has sustained their reputation in the industry.

Keeping up with new technology and techniques of installations has lead the Gillette family to be specialists in geo source heating and cooling, radiant heat, including in-floor heat, snowmelt, and wall warming.

They continue to hold a large share of the residential replacement market while specializing in custom ductwork and unique indoor environmental systems for new construction homes. Owner involvement as well as a caring and qualified staff has made CENTER LINE HEATING & COOLING very successful!
